Prologue
He watched her, memorizing her movements. She could have moved gracefully, even beautifully, if she had chosen. Instead, her manner erased all that one might find attractive. She kept her head slightly down, avoiding eye contact with the customers she served. Her drab brown hair was pulled back into a ponytail, hiding all femininity.
Every step was tentative and shy as she kept her shoulders hunched slightly forward. For most she would be utterly forgettable, just some unidentified person who made beverages for paying customers. Everything she did worked to push the world away. She was successful at hiding from all -except for him. He was drawn to her like a moth to a flame, enticed by her attempts to hide from the world and be unremarkable. He wanted to help her. He wanted to help her keep the world away, to keep her invisible for ever. Soon he would be ready to help her completely disappear. Helping people erase themselves from the world was his greatest skill. He was placed on this great earth by God to erase people, and God whispered to him "erase her next."
More to follow.
